About the role ….

The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and managing tax accounts, working papers, and annual tax returns for clients. The role requires advanced knowledge of Australian taxation regulations, compliance, and strategies, as well as proficiency in key software tools. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex tax issues while collaborating with client managers and accountants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate financial statements, working papers, and tax returns in compliance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regulations.
  • Utilize accounting software for financial accounts and tax returns
  • Manage client data and documentation via OneDrive and Outlook, complemented by PDF editor tools.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Provide expert advice and troubleshooting on tax-related matters, including but not limited to:
    o Income tax obligations and deductions, including:
     Div7A issues, international dealings, R&D incentives, UPE and bucket company obligations, and lots more
    o Capital gains tax (CGT) calculations and strategies.
    o Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance.
    o Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) reporting.
    o Business activity statement (BAS) preparation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams via email and Microsoft Teams
  • Ensure timely delivery of work while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance, including chasing managers for working papers and ensuring lodgement programs are managed without delays.
  • Stay updated on Australian taxation legislation, ATO rulings, and industry best practices.


Qualifications / Skills:

  • CPA, CA, or tax-specific qualifications.
  • Experience with other Australian accounting standards.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Australian tax accounting, with proven expertise in tax compliance, regulations, and strategies (e.g., income tax, CGT, GST, FBT, BAS).
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero accounting software, Xero Practice Manager, OneDrive, Outlook, and Excel for reporting and data management.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts clearly and professionally.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with accountants within the Eagle group to discuss and explain tax issues and strategies or resolve queries.
  • Exceptional accuracy in preparing financial statements, tax returns, and working papers, ensuring compliance with ATO standards.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple client portfolios efficiently in a remote work environment.

Desirables (Preferred but Not Essential)

  • Process Improvement: Experience in identifying and implementing efficiencies in tax workflows or software usage.
